We were lucky enough to get a changing table from a friend for free (we like free stuff!) So all I had to do was purchase the pad ($20.00) for the changing table, and the cover for the pad, which is also pretty menial at $10.00. Then a lady in our neighborhood sold us her crib (matches the changing table perfectly! If I didn't know better, I would have assumed it was a set!) for $125.00.We got the crib mattress for free from the same friends that gave us the changing table. A nice Serta mattress. Let me just say that before I go on (I know there are gasps coming from the safety police right now because of the idea of a "used" mattress and crib). Both are newer and still on the market with very high reviews, and no recalls, so I felt at ease. So we are pretty much done with nursery furniture. I would like to get a dresser to set a lamp on, and his humidifier, and of course some decorations, but that's not an absolute must right this minute. I figure I'll let my hubby get frustrated with the amount of baby clothes and lack of places to put them before I push this issue to heavily. There are other things we needed to make life with baby a little bit easier than doing things the old fashioned way...ya know...before plumbing and cell phones :)
After attempting to make Hayden's crib bedding and saying "O forget it" (I realized I have two kids already that are involved in many things, work full time, and try to keep up a household all at the same time...I could put that pressure on myself) but when I found the crib set for SUPER cheap ($80.00 for the whole thing) it hardly seemed worth the expense of time to make it. Maybe I'll get back around to it. I suppose I could have done this while on bed rest?
Anyway...on to my shopping excursion...Babies R'Us and Target seem to be competing for the baby business the past few weeks, and I definitely felt like the winner in that match. Today I went out and purchased Hayden's travel system with an extra car seat base. I was so pleased to find out they had a jogger travel system, and was moved from the moment I saw it that this would be our stoller. I was even more stoked when I found out that Babies R'US was having this Great Trade in Event. Basically they are taking used baby items (certain brands) and giving 20% off toward the bigger items (nursery furniture, stroller, car seat, etc.) We had a used stroller from the same friend we got the changing table and mattress from, it was 5 years old, and still in very good shape, but it was one of the big clunky strollers that is a pain to get in and out of the car, no travel system (which any veteran parent who has had the luxury of using one knows, it makes life so much easier to have this)...and I said NO WAY, after trying to get the thing to even fold down. I was so excited when I found out Babies R'US would give me $40 for the old one, and apply those funds toward the purchase of my new travel system I've been oogling! It was originally 200.00 and I got it for 160.00! :) YAY ME! After buying an extra base for Adam's truck the total came to what the travel system alone would have cost before tax. SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS! Look how pretty:
As everyone that follows my posts (boring, or not) knows, a few weeks ago we purchased Hayden's pack and play ( I was so tempted to take the receipt back to Target and ask for my $40.00 bucks back since the dang thing is on sale now! GRRRRR!) Don't know if they would argue with me on this, so whatever....not worth the patience I don't have these days to deal with it if they didn't want to refund it back. Plus I was happy enough saving almost $60.00 on his highchair, and swing (we also got these free from our friend's, and they would have done just fine, but Adam had to compell to my OCD side and point out that "they don't match") And of course the pretty picture I have to show you all of our "matching" set:

Let me go one step further by saying this...when I had Nolan and Evyn I relied heavily on used baby equipment. I did not have the means to provide brand new and the man that I was married to was cheap...if it wasn't for his entertainment...he wasn't spending money on it. So everything we had for them was a garage sale find. It's a small reward for my pride to be able to (after all the stuggling I went through in the years before finding myself, my career, and eventually Adam) provide brand new for our baby. I'm sure there are eye brows raising thinking "what a snot"....but it's part of the joy of having a baby....being able to prepare for them. This is the first time I've gotten to do that with complete joy and no panic and with the man I love, who just happens to be highly interested in his baby's and my well being...and I'm enjoying myself...so let me be in all my spending splendor :) Don't know why I feel I have to justify that...probably because I've done it the other way, and I know it can be done and everything is just fine and dandy. But I always was so envious of the expectant couples I would see out shopping for their new arrival back then. Now I am one of those couples, and I am completely immersing myself in that! :)
