Nothing hugely entertaining. We purchased Hayden's pack n play yesterday. I find it humorous because my poor hubby has NO idea what is needed to make living with an infant easier...and what is completely unnecessary. There are alot of unecessary baby items...I'll give him that! This was a humor point for a few of his friends in Iowa also, when he was out one night just a few weeks ago while on a visit to our hometown. He wisely cracked about how I'd been talking about this pack n play thing, and he thought I was wanting completely unnecessary items for this child. They laughed at him. Thought it was hilarious. Then they informed him this was one of the most important things. Poor hubby. He deserves some slack though, it's not one of those things that you know unless you've been through the experience. He doesn't know that a pack n play is necessary. That a rocking recliner will help you get through several bouts of screaming. The reason you want a jogging stroller is it's much lighter and much easier to maneuver than the bigger clunkier versions that are a nightmare to get in and out of the car, push, turn, etc. Now they make them for infants and compatible with car seats, so you still get the "travel system" without all the hassle. Not only that, but you can run with them. Nice for two people that like to exercise. He doesn't understand that even though you are breast feeding...you still need a breast pump, and bottles. He just kindof cocks his head at me and says "why". He'll find out why very soon. I love watching his confusion. It's sweet, and endearing. Maneuvering through pregnancy with him is fun, and all his little moments of "what's that for?" and "why do we need that?" make me excited to watch him with our son.
While we were at Target purchasing the pack n play, we were walking through the toy aisle and he was so excited by all the little boy toys...I let him enjoy for a little while, plus they do have some really cool stuff out now! The imaginext stuff...WOW! Can't wait until Hayden is 3 or 4.....he's getting this big walking, talking, remote controlled dinosaur. SO cool! I guided him over to the infant/toddler toy area and crushed his dreams of hot wheels and micro machines by telling him this was it for the next couple of years (at least 3). He glazed over staring at the noise making toys, and aisle full of Little People. Hot wheels will come in time, baby.
He was funny to watch once we got the pack n play home. I think he was more excited to get it out of the box and put it together than I was. That lasted about 10 minutes :) He gave up on putting the thing together. He just kind of kept looking at me helplessly, and then he made some comment about how I should be able to do this without directions. I had to remind him that it had been almost 10 years since I had to deal with these things. Yes, it's much like riding a bike, but at the same time, that bike now has a "newborn napper" and a "changing table" attached. Which it did not have 10 years ago. We did get it together finally, though, and it looks, as husband kept commenting on "really comfortable". So comfortable, we both needed a nap.
