Week 20: Cantaloupe
Daddy is having a hard time believing there's something the size of a cantaloupe occupying my belly. I'm having a hard time understanding why. You'd think this would bring him comfort since the flat belly that used to be there is bulging now. (shrugging) Whatever, husband. He finally felt Hayden move. I think he's actually felt him before, he just didn't realize that's what he was feeling. He was expecting something more jarring, probably because when most people talk about baby movement inside a belly, they talk about kicking. Hayden has been pretty active this week, so he's had many opportunities to feel him squirming around in there. Which is how he described what he was feeling. This is how the conversation went:
Me: " can't you feel that"
Adam: "I feel like squirming, like he's rolling around, but I don't feel him kicking"
Me: "baby, that's him!"
Adam: "so that's what it feels like, I've been feeling that. I I thought you just had to fart or something. I guess, I was just expecting him to kick my hand or something"
Me: "so this whole time that's what you've been feeling and you thought it was just me having to toot? NO! He'll kick eventually...he's just not big enough that you'll feel that more than him rolling around"
Funny daddy.
Anyhow.
Hayden's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. So fun to clean up. Daddy is changing those first few diapers! And, speaking of the diaper situation...just in case there's any question (which I don't know how there could be after the gazillion ultra sound pictures we have of "it") he's all boy now...his boy stuff in and out is fully formed.

Haha, the meconium was really interesting and very sticky. I actually didn't change many of those diapers with all of the help I had with her dad and my mom, and she passed a lot of it while still at the hospital, and the nurses took care of changes for me. Ahh, I wish I would have basked in my time at the hospital more. Little did I know, that was the last time I would be waited on hand and foot -- possibly for forever ;)
ReplyDeleteSo exiting you are this far now! Time is flying.
